I am a big fan of charcoal-infused food ever since I tasted it the first time back in junior college (a.k.a high school)! And one day, I saw a charcoal waffle post on Instagram. My eyes couldn’t stop staring at the beautiful-looking waffle. The next thing I knew, I had texted a few people to see if anyone wanted to travel all the way to the east of Singapore just to try this waffle with me! x)
Distance does not matter if the
person(waffle, i mean!) is worth it, right? Hehehe
I managed to convince my childhood friends to accompany me to FatCat – sorry girls! hehehe <3
But sadly all the waffles were SOLD OUT on that day. We were soooooo sooooo sooooo disappointed!! I mean, this cafe opens at around 12PM and by 3PM, all the waffles are sold out?!?! [After checking their Facebook page, I found out that this place was fairly new so they still had a lot of things to figure out : ].
So my advice: Do call them before coming to the cafe to check if the waffles are still available! You wouldn’t want to travel all the way there to find out that they have run out of waffles!! [Phone no: 6241 0830]
I had to go back to this cafe again a few days later just to try the charcoal waffle!
On the first bite, I thought the waffle was pretty good! It was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. But after eating more, I got really confused about the taste of this waffle. It’s probably best for me to describe the waffle first. So the gourmet charcoal waffle came with salted egg yolk sauce, caramel sauce, dried lavender seeds (can you spot them on my last picture?) and ice cream of your choice (for our case, we chose the hay & honey ice cream).
In conclusion, there were so many flavours happening on this plate and in the end, I only registered the lavender seeds as they had a very strong taste and smell 😡
I personally feel that this waffle could have been better had they not serve it with the lavender seeds (and maybe with more salted egg sauce too?) – just my own preference though!! 😉
Other than the waffle, I also tried the Mojito Cocktail Sphere ($4.50 each). For this dessert, you have to put the entire sphere in your mouth in one go (yep, $4.50 gone in a second!). When you do, this tiny thing will burst and you will immediately feel the mojito flow in your mouth! So do give it a go if you have never tried this before!
On top of the popular gourmet waffle, FatCat also serves different gourmet plated desserts each day. Mojito Cocktail Sphere and Deconstructed Strawberry Cheesecake are some of their gourmet plated desserts (that’s why the heftier price tag as compared to the waffle) and they only serve it in limited quantities. So do check their Facebook page (click here) to find out the daily specials and updates on their availability! If I’m not wrong, they only have 20 plates for each gourmet plated dessert.
This place definitely offers a different experience from the other ice-cream and waffle cafes by offering different plated desserts so make sure to try them when you are at FatCat.
