Looking for the best, non-mainstream coffee in Singapore? While it might be just a small red dot on the map, but boy does Singapore have an impressive range of third wave and passionate coffee spots. If you’re looking to experience something more off the beaten path, here’s a short list of amazing cafes to try!
Dedicated to serving great coffee, fine tea, craft beer as well as food, this warm gathering place serves a consistently amazing cup of coffee. Right next to the dining area lies a kitchen full of passionate handcrafters. On my fourth visit I was introduced to their mind-boggling chicken wings. Honestly, even with the distance/location, Necessary Provisions is a must visit for everyone.

The Tiny Roaster
This small yet homely coffee studio & brew bar resides in the Clementi area. Serving only filter coffee (the espresso machine is there for steaming!) in black or white brews, the barista more than welcomes a fun conversation on coffee. Gear up with a selection of coffee equipment and their own roasted or unroasted beans, or take the next level with their intimate coffee classes.
Update on The Tiny Roasters: they are moving to a new place and will re-open in July 2015

Special Mention – Monocle Cafe
For a truly “out of the cup” experience, take a stroll across Holland Village to find Monocle magazine’s 3rd outlet cafe in the world after London and Tokyo. Only a small “M” signage welcomes you to a chic 2-storey shophouse. Enjoy a cup while looking through Monocle’s retail goods and magazines. The coffee is just all right but the walk to and around the shophouse makes the trip unique and truly off the beaten path.
