Review: DB Bistro Moderne, Singapore

Looking for casual French cuisine or fresh seafood? You might want to check DB Bistro Moderne, one of the celebrity restaurants in Marina Bay Sands.

While celebrity restaurants may sound like they will create a big hole in your wallet, I have actually found a few that are pretty affordable – some main dishes only cost around $20-40 – and the two restaurants that caught my attention were Pizzeria Mozza and DB Bistro.

For Stanley’s early birthday celebration recently, we decided to visit the latter as the burger from DB bistro sounded more interesting 🙂

The Original DB Burger $42

Sirloin burger filled with braised short ribs & foie gras served on a Parmesan bun. Yum! <3

Stanley had the Original DB burger while I ordered the New England Lobster Roll ($42).

The Original DB Burger ($42).

The Original DB Burger

The main reason why we chose DB Bistro over Pizzeria Mozza in the first place was to try this super-thick-looking burger (it is really thick because the burger comes with foie gras and braised short ribs wrapped around the sirloin meat). The birthday boy really enjoyed his burger although if there was one thing that he could change, it’d definitely be to remove the mustard sauce from the burger >.<

Lobster Roll ($42)

New England Lobster Roll

Brioche ( ♥♥ one of the reasons why I ordered the lobster roll actually) topped with chunky lobsters, celery, avocado and tomatoes. I wouldn’t say it’s the best that I’ve had but the lobster roll in DB Bistro tasted very fresh, unlike the usual buttery and savoury ones. I still prefer the usual lobster rolls though.

Both the burger and the lobster roll came with french fries as well. Do eat the french fries together with the garlic aioli sauce, we thought the garlic aioli was really good 🙂

Another thing that we really liked from db Bistro was their awesome service. The guy who served us on that day was very helpful and friendly.

A birthday celebration is never complete without a cake and a candle so while Stanley was deeply-engrossed in reading his menu, I quickly exchanged a look with our server and I secretly told him that I wanted to order dessert for the birthday boy. He then came back with a dessert menu, complete with a note saying “I’ll write Happy Birthday

Perfect! 🙂

Here’s the highlight from the dinner – the Durian Royale Souffle ($18).

The durian taste was not too overpowering and the mangosteen sorbet balanced out the sweetness from the souffle with its just-perfect sourness. Who knew the mangosteen sorbet would go well with the durian souffle?

Overall, we did enjoy our dinner at DB Bistro – we may not be 100% satisfied with the food (except for the Durian Royal Souffle) but the service is definitely worth a mention.

Anyway, today is Stanley’s actual birthday. I decided to celebrate his birthday early as we won’t be seeing each other until Mid June 🙁

So, to end this post, I’d like to wish my dearest boyfriend the HAPPIEST BIRTHDAY. All the best for your final year in University! ♥♥♥ See you soon! 🙂
