Pullman Bangkok Hotel G Review, Silom

Pullman Bangkok Hotel G Review

Pullman Bangkok Hotel G is a stylish lifestyle hotel located in Silom, Bangkok’s business-oriented neighbourhood. The hotel gives off a very modern, edgy vibe, and probably has one of the most hipster-looking lobbies around. I recently stayed there for three nights and thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience.

The check-in process was quite smooth. As with most other places, we had to fill up a guest particulars form and pass a credit card for the hotel to block. We then headed up to our rooms on the 24th floor – I got another dose of the hotel’s edgy vibes in the elevator: it was dark and dim, house music was playing, and a black-and-white video was looping in the background, of fashion models reminiscent of the ’70s.

My room itself was super spacious and decorated in all white. When I got in, on the table was a burger-shaped macaron accompanied by a welcome note. My friend actually wondered if it was edible because it was shaped so nicely, but I ate mine and it was actually really good. Such a nice touch. On the table was also an iPod dock, and guests could request for cables to connect their phones or other types of music players to it. I dialled the one-stop-service button (called “Pullman Touch”) and got my cable within 5 minutes. It was one of my favourite parts of the stay.

Dominating the entire far wall were floor-to-ceiling windows, letting in plenty of natural lighting by day and providing me with lovely views of the city lights after dark. It also happened to face directly westwards, and on my first day I caught one of Bangkok’s legendary sunsets from my room. Simply lovely.

My only quip was there was no automatic button to open the curtains. This is such a first-world problem, I know, but I stayed at another hotel in Taipei once and it had sensors that drew the curtains open whenever I stepped into the room. The sensors could also detect when I stepped out and the curtains would automatically close. It has ruined my expectations of hotel curtains ever since.

I also really liked the details of the bathroom, with shiny black-and-white mini tiles and white leathery boxes filled with amenity kits. Housekeeping actually changed my towels daily, even when I hung them up as a sign that I was still perfectly happy with them. Well at least I tried to be more environmentally friendly, yo.

Breakfast and lunch spreads were served at Miral Restaurant on the hotel’s second level. I particularly loved the bacon at breakfast. This was one of the very few places that did bacon just right for me – not too crispy til all the chewiness was gone, like how most places do crispy bacon. They do main courses quite well, but sadly not in the sweets department. Pastries at breakfast were meh, and cakes at lunch was just okay.

Facilities-wise, the gym was quite small and the pool practically non-existent. I went for a swim one late afternoon and it literally took only 30 seconds to swim from one end of the pool to the other, at a very leisurely pace. You can hang out there to relax, but forget getting any real exercise done.

Service at the hotel was generally prompt and excellent. Staff was super friendly and helpful. Whenever we were heading somewhere they would always make sure to google-maps the address for us and tell our taxi drivers in Thai. They would also pass us the hotel’s address card, so we could just give it to our driver when we were heading back. The concierge desk gave us really good recommendations of dinner and massage places too.

All in all, if you are coming to Bangkok for business, Pullman Bangkok Hotel G is definitely a good choice. The hotel room has got to be one of the nicest I’ve stayed in, right in my top three together with Ritz-Carlton Millenia Singapore (will always be my favourite, especially with the killer views over Marina Bay!) and The Westin Mumbai’s club room. Ask for a room that faces westward, and if you’re lucky you might just catch one of Bangkok’s sunsets too! 😉
