When people ask us for Bali restaurant recommendations, Merah Putih Seminyak will always be among the first ones that we mention. This restaurant is just right – food is great, service is excellent, and it’s housed in such a lovely premise it has got to be one of the prettiest restaurants in Bali.
A visited Merah Putih Seminyak a couple times for dinner, and we’ve written a review from way back in 2015, but we made a lunch stop at this restaurant recently and thought it fitting to update the review. Hint: it’s still just as good as ever 😉
Merah Putih Seminyak – Lunch Review
This time round, lunch started with Pangsit Lobster (lobster dumpling), Buntut Makassar (oxtail soup), and Gurita Panggang Sumbawa (grilled octopus). Our favourite was the Pangsit Lobster – the lobster meat was done just right and the sauce complimented the taste perfectly.
We also ordered the Merah Putih lunch specials – Ayam Betutu (smoked Balinese chicken) and Bebek Menyat Nyat (duck curry), as well as a serving of Nasi Goreng Bali (Balinese fried rice). Everything was super delicious, but the duck deserves an honorary mention – the meat was fork tender and the curry was just lovely.
We didn’t get any desserts at Merah Putih because we wanted to try the donuts from Dough Darlings, just down the road from the restaurant. But based on previous experiences, their desserts are always unique takes on traditional Indonesian sweets, so definitely worth trying.
If you have never been to Merah Putih Seminyak, do yourself a favour and have a meal there. A likes the dinner ambience better – the whole restaurant is just so pretty with all the fairy lights – but O prefers the lunch atmosphere as it’s bright and airy with plenty of natural lights. Your pick! 🙂
